POPI approved by Portfolio Committee

7/25/2013

We are one step closer having POPI enacted. Parliament's Portfolio Committee for Justice and Constitutional Development yesterday, the 24th of July 2013, voted positive on the changes brought on by the NCOP.

The National Assembly will now cast its vote on POPI during the course of next week, whereafter signature by the President will follow.

It would therefore seem that the long road is finally coming to an end.

What is great about this is the fact that entities preparing itself for POPI, will have more certainty as to the actual wording of POPI.

Those that have not started walking down the remediation path, depending on size and complexity off course, will find themselves facing an enormous challenge. Not only from a compliance perspective, but from every likeable business angle within their organisations.

POPI implementation is far bigger than mere compliance, and the associated business changes and processes could take a heavy toll on any organisation, if not carefully planned.
